American Rapper RZA Claims Afrobeats Is Hip Hop. American rapper and veteran pop artiste, RZA, says Afrobeat is a subgenre of Hip Hop music and disagrees with the notion that Afrobeats will dent Hip Hop even in the future.
RZA’s claims come after comedian and actor Duval laid claims that Afrobeat will cause the death of Hip Hop and that the genre is likely to dent and take over the world.
In the tweet which elicited RZA claims by Duval, he said ” Afrobeats might be the death of Hip Hop as we know”. This tweet has generated interest from the masses who wanted to know the basis for the claims, one of the personalities to have responded is veteran rapper RZA.
RZA said Afrobeats is part of Hip Hop culture and that there is no way it is going to take over Hip Hop and bring the genre to an end.
TMZ.COM caught up with the Wu-Tang boss, RZA, who claimed the claims straight. He says that Afrobeat is Hip Hop. He revealed those doing Afrobeats are basically doing a form of Hip Hop. He added that Afrobeats is just like Trap and Funk which are subgenres of Hip Hop.
RZA says Afrpbeats is a rendition of Hip Hop. Per his claims, people doing Hip Hop deserve a chance for the music to be heard and impact cultures.
The whole conundrum started when Burna Boy, Tems, and Rema took the center stage in the super Bowl NBA all-stars halftime performance. The three Afrobeats sensations from Nigeria performed back-to-back Afrobeats tunes thrilling the audience to the brim.
Afrobeats is a genre originally credited to Nigerians. In 2022, Billabord created a special Afrobeats chart for the genre.
During his visit to Ghana, the president of the Grammy academy Harvey Mason revealed the academy is planning to create a special category for the Afrobeats.
