President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has said President Akufo-Addo subtly jabbed Vice President, Dr. Bawumia over his driver’s mate analogy during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Tuesday.

He said the President assuming full responsibility for the economic woes is a jab on Dr. Bawumia.

“The President taking full responsibility is coming on the back of conversations about Bawumia being the driver’s mate.

“If you critically look at his statement, he was subtly jabbing Bawumia”, he said during an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Wednesday.

Background

The New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaians to vote for him as the next president to give him the mandate to implement policies that will grow the country.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, February 7, in Accra, the Vice President said he has learnt lessons from the seven years of the Akufo-Addo government and reviewed his visions for the country.

“As Vice-President, I am like a driver’s mate. But if, by the Grace of God, you make me President, I will be in the driver’s seat with constitutionally mandated authority to pursue my vision and my priorities.”

“Clearly, the initial conditions that we inherited in 2017 are not the same as will be in 2025. Therefore, my priorities will be different. We have done many good things and I will be seeking to build on them,” he noted.

Dr Bawumia assured that as President he will ensure he will create a government that will accommodate everyone to tap into the resourcefulness and talents of our people irrespective of our different ethnic, political and religious backgrounds.

This he said will help channel energies into building the kind of country that assures a food-self-sufficient, safe, prosperous, and dignified future for all Ghanaians.

Also, he will create sustainable jobs with meaningful pay for all, and for Ghana to participate fully in the fourth industrial revolution using systems and data.

Dr Bawumia has promised to implement many policies including abolishing the e-levy, Ghana a cashless society, cutting government expenditure and implementing a new tax regime, among others.
