Ghanaian President, Akufo-Addo, has urged citizens to remain positive and find a silver lining in the ongoing cloud of economic hardship, stating that the situation could have been worse judging by happenings elsewhere.
Ghana is currently seeking a $3 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due to intensifying hardship, a rising cost of living, and a depreciating cedi.
Speaking at the 66th Independence Day Anniversary celebration in the Volta Region, Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians that his administration was working hard to find solutions to the economic challenges.
He also highlighted that other countries facing similar issues have seen chronic shortages leading to long queues at fuel stations.
The Independence Day celebration marks Ghana’s emancipation from British colonial rulers on March 6, 1957.
To commemorate the occasion and reflect on the country’s progress, Ghanaians set aside this day each year. This year’s theme is ‘Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose.
