Former Black Queens head coach, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, was non-committal about how she was treated during her time as head trainer of Ghana’s national women’s football team.
The former player and referee had a neutral response to the question in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports at a time the Queens have registered five straight wins under new head coach Nora Hauptle.
“It doesn’t matter. Life is full of ups and downs. It doesn’t matter” she said in response when quizzed on how she was treated during her tenure as Black Queens head coach.
Tagoe-Quarcoo was replaced by Hauptle earlier this year after the Queens failed to qualify to two international competitions in a row.
The Black Queens lost out on progressing to the 2023 FIFA World Cup and 2022 Women’s AFCON that was held in Morocco.
Tagoe-Quarcoo was part of the Black Queens team that competed at the 1999 Women’s World Cup and made history by becoming the first woman to be named head coach of the Black Queens.
Under Hauptle, Ghana beat Guinea 7-0 on aggregate to progress to the second round of qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ghana has been drawn against Benin.
