Creative Arts is taking a global dimension. Previously, it was rare to see Africans in the thick of creativity in Hollywood, which is the biggest entertainment market. It is now a common trend to see collaborations especially between Africans and Hollywood stars, especially in music where Nigerians easily dominate. With the emergence of Afrobeats in the music industry, the products are easy to see, access and consume across the globe.
There is the case however of Africans behind the camera or away from the limelight who have made a name for themselves, albeit quietly and effectively.
One such person is Davies Chirwa, a Zambian of Malawi descent based in Seattle, Washington. He is the founder of Channel A TV and DC Productions Media Group. With his media brands, he has been providing coverage of the NBA, NFL (including the Superbowl), BET Awards, MTV Awards, Grammys plus many high-profile events in the United States of America.
With elegant productions studios based in Washington State, DC Productions Media Group, which he started in 2010, specializes in big event productions for global multicultural events mainly in the United States, Europe and Africa.
Despite many obstacles of living in the diaspora, Davies has risen above his challenges to become a prolific international icon with high-quality leadership skills, technical expertise, and business acumen as an entrepreneur and a mentor to the younger generations in his community.
He has directed and produced documentaries for top athletes and entertainers such as Richard Sherman, Russell Wilson, Deion Sanders, Danielle Pelham, Bobby Wagner, Doug Baldwin, Michael Irvin, Marcus Trufant, Sydney Leroux plus more and organizations; The United Nations Summit, NFL Super Bowl XLVIII/ XLIX/50, U.S National Soccer for FIFA World Cup, The African Goodwill Awards, and a documentary on President Obama’s Seattle Seahawks invitation to the White House.
He provides coverage for these events, through Channel A TV, where his daughter Thandi Chirwa is seen conducting interviews and providing opening speeches to top-level audiences at a very young age.
As we continue to bridge the gap between African creatives and the West, it is important to highlight the involvements and achievements of trailblazers who are setting the course of action and inspiring the younger generations to the possibilities of becoming a global sensation with dedication and unrelenting hard work.
