According to rapper and singer-songwriter Fameye, the awards he has received do not validate his abilities but rather simply give him something he may brag with.
Today, Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Fameye, alias Peter, guested on Accra-based TV3 New Day morning show.
Berla Mundi asked the Thank You hitmaker if he thinks he will win the Songwriter of the Year award again at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) as he did last year.
“Oh, if we’d be honest, I should perpetually be winning this Songwriter award,” he answered.
“I don’t release songs because I want them to be a [commercial] hit,” he added. “I rather want it to hit the hearts of people.”
Due to this, he said, “I write it for you [and] for you to relate to it and connect. And everyone knows that my lyrics are quality and touching.”
“I’m not being a braggart,” the Bogoso-native clarified. “The award is not actually giving me the validation that I am good. The award is only giving me some bragging rights. But I know I put in the [hard]work and I deserve to win.”
“Last year, I won,” he noted.
On May 13, the 24th edition of the VGMAs will take place at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Fameye stands two chances to win an award: ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and or ‘Best Afropop Song’.
Born Peter Famiyeh Bozah, he stated that his fans had hoped he would be nominated in the Gospel Song of the Year category “because all my songs are Gospel.”
On his part, he had expected to be part of the nominees for Album of the Year “because I had one of the best albums” and it was abundantly streamed with “more than 10 million streams.”
