Asantehene destools Aduamoa chief

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled the Chief of Aduamoa in the Ashanti Region due to his involvement in unauthorized multiple land sales and various acts of misconduct.

This latest move by the Asantehene follows closely on the heels of another recent destoolment – that of the Chief of Bekwai Abodom – who was accused of engaging in illegal mining activities within his jurisdiction.

The Asantehene’s decision to destool the Chief of Aduamoa is rooted in a history of persistent engagement in inappropriate behaviour, despite having been cautioned on numerous occasions.

The chief’s actions have apparently continued to undermine the values and responsibilities associated with his position, prompting this firm response from the Asantehene.

To symbolize the destoolment, the Asantehene ordered the removal of the chief’s sandals.

Making the pronouncement at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, August 14, 2023, the Asantehene said, “We have been walking and serving together since childhood, so you feel pampered to act anyhow. You have not been visiting your stool in Kotei to perform the necessary rites up to now. I was waiting for you to die, so today you have been destooled”.

The Asantehene, on Monday, May 29, also destooled the chief of Antoa, Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman.

The decision came as a consequence of multiple offences committed by the chief, including the unauthorised sale of lands, and a violation of the customs and traditions upheld by the Asante people.

On his first sitting following his return from the coronation of King Charles III in the United Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II presided over the ruling as the President of the Kumasi Traditional Council.

Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman held the esteemed position of the Antoa chief for an uninterrupted period of 23 years.
