Empress Gifty has intimated she earns more money from being a fashion influencer than music.
The trained seamstress and Gospel music star appeared on No.1 FM, 105. 3, Friday, July 7, 2023, for the No.1 Gospel Showbiz with Taller Dee.
A listener texted in to ask if music was her sole work.
“I work because the hand that does no work will experience hunger,” she answered. “Whether you’re a woman or a man, you must work.”
“Apart from the [music] gifting God has given me, I work in addition,” she added.
She also spoke about how being a fashionista has affected her service as a Gospel artiste.
It has affected me “a lot,” she laughed. “That’s how I’m often defined.”
“It’s helped me,” she clarified.
“A lot of companies bring clothings to me, footwear, see what I’m wearing,” she said, pulling her hair back to reveal more of the stylish glasses she was wearing. “They brought me about six of them and said: ‘Empress, wear it and give them pressure’.”
In fact, she said, “at the moment, that’s what I get more money from.”
She cited that for her music videos, it is not unusual for a single person to give her fabrics worth GHS8,000 requesting that she wears it on set and gives them a mention.
“So when you watch my vidoes, the credit given to people is plenty,” she noted.
To secure such deals and favours, she said “is all about branding”.
“You determine what comes to you by how you present yourself,” she advised.
According to Empress Gifty, she is releasing an album soon.
Meanwhile, Awieye Pa (Good Ending) is her latest song, written by This Far hitmaker Ewura Abena.
