Ghana’s 4x100m relay team has a chance to book a slot at the 2024 Olympic Games through the 2024 World Relays in Bahamas.

The team is led by star runners Benjamin Azamati who recently joined the team after recovering from injury and Joseph Paul Amoah. The two have been central to the success of Ghana’s relay team in the last five years.

Their recent medal was the silver medal they clinched at the African Games in Accra earlier this year. Their time of  38.43 seconds at the Games put them in the top 15 countries in the world.

Buoyed by the addition of youngsters, Isaac Botsio and Ibrahim Fuseini, The Bahamas Relay now gives them the opportunity to secure a slot in Paris this July. Botsio has ran the world-leading time in 100m this year in a time of 9.90s and the confidence from that feat is what he wants to show on the tracks when it is race time.

The format of the World Relay championships is that qualification to the final there means qualification to the Olympic Games. So the relay team will have it all to do when they step on the tracks in the Caribbean country.

Ghana’s season best of 38.43s only equalled or bettered by four countries at the relay championship – The USA who are in Ghana’s Heat, Australia, Netherlands and Nigeria.

Ghana will be in heat 1 and will face competition from Champions USA, Italy, Bahamas the host nation and Brazil.

A top two finish in the heat will secure Olympic qualification for Ghana.
