The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. George Yaw Boakye, lauded Newmont Ghana’s pivotal role in maintaining peace since 2017. He emphasized the government’s vested interest in safeguarding the region and acknowledged Newmont’s substantial contributions to this endeavor. The company’s support extends beyond mere donations, as evidenced by its ongoing projects to enhance security infrastructure. Notably, Newmont is spearheading the construction of a divisional police command at Duayaw Nkwanta and expanding the Goaso police station cells, reinforcing the security apparatus in the region.
Ing. Alex Kofi Annin, the Newmont Ahafo South Mines manager, elucidated on the company’s multifaceted support for the security services. Besides material provisions like fuel and food, Newmont is actively engaged in addressing the accommodation needs of the Ahafo Army. Collaborating with the Regional Coordinating Council, Newmont aims to facilitate the establishment of a permanent residence for the soldiers, enabling them to execute their duties effectively and efficiently.
Brigadier Commander Michael Opoku expressed profound gratitude to Newmont Ghana for the donation of the three pickups, recognizing the critical role they play in ensuring comprehensive security coverage across the Ahafo region. However, he also highlighted a pressing challenge faced by the security forces—the lack of adequate accommodation. This shortage impedes the smooth functioning of their operations and underscores the urgency for collective action to address this issue promptly.
