Although Okyeame Kwame has come under serious flak for making some unconventional claims in recent times, the rapper says he is unfazed by such attacks.
According to him, his recent ‘controversial’ comments are borne out of the quest to awaken people’s reasoning power on pertinent issues affecting humanity.
Although some have applauded his thoughts and called them philosophical, others think he may be outstepping his bounds.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter (X) Spaces show, Joy Entertainment Unpacked, Okyeame outlined the reasons for his outspoken nature on matters that are a mass departure from what is known by the public.
“I’ve come to realise that my whole essence at my age, with my experience is about service to community and because service is not just about self but about community, I feel bad that I have such rich experience to share but I box myself so that I don’t share them. When I am asked certain questions, I keep quiet so that I don’t share them,” he said.
The ‘Yeeko’ hit maker said that, he has now decided to come out of his shell, dreading all attacks and dissenting opinions.
“At this point in my life I have realised that it is wrong to hold back my thoughts. So I am going to help community with my ideas,” he noted.
He also added that the second reason for his recent outspoken nature is as a result of a revolution that is coming as result of people’s ability to think beyond conservatism. He said this revolution or war will be done with the mind than with weapons.
Not long ago, Okyeame Kwame was in the trends for saying that drinking more water could cause dehydration. While his claim was contested by many on social media as described by some as “medical misinformation”, Dr. Samuel Nuamah, a General Physician and Public Health Specialist said even though there is no define answer to the claim, there is a possibility of one being dehydrated through over drinking.
Okyeame in a different interview on Angel FM also mentioned one does not need the blessings of their parents to get married. He cited his marriage as an example, explaining that before they would get married both of their parents did not like the religious sects of either party. So they decided to marry through ordinance.
Another claim by Okyeame Kwame that has stoked controversy is that when one has sex outside of their marriage or relationship, they cheat on themselves but not on their partners.
Explaining this assertion on Joy Entertainment Unpacked, he said this philosophy is to condition one’s mind against shocks or disappointments. One only gets worried or affected if they see the cheating of their partners as something done against them. He said taking off the effect psychologically saved the one who has been cheated on a lot of pain.
Earlier this year, the Rap Doctor also urged the youth not to listen to advice.
He told Kwame Dadzie in an interview on Joy Prime that people who proffer advice do so just because they are scared for those they advise.
“Don’t listen to advice. I beg you, young people. Because after listening to advice over the years, look at where we are.
Okyeame Kwame intimated that human beings have two voices in their heads (the voice of the body and the voice of God or the voice of the spirit) and that it is always advisable to listen to the voice of God.
“The voice of the body wants you to overeat, it wants you to be lazy, it wants you to cheat your boss, it wants you to cut corners, it wants you to do all the things that you must do as quickly as possible without a lot of effort. And the voice of God in you wants you to love, it wants you to meet the right people, it wants you to sacrifice, it wants you to pummel your body, it wants you to be the boss over your body so that you can behave like Christ, or Mohammed or that good guy that you want to be like. Listen to that voice of God,” he said.
He added that: “most of the people who advise you are afraid for you. You want to be a rapper but your parents say no become a doctor. They are afraid that if you become a rapper you will amount to nothing. Look at me, I think I have become something. Sarkodie, look at M.anifest, they are all rappers. They have wives, they are living their lives and they are a good source of inspiration in the society.”
Reiterating his stance, the ‘Made in Ghana’ ambassador encouraged young people to listen to the positive things they heard from their spirit and not that that voice will guide them in everything they do.
He is currently out with a new song titled ‘Insha Allah’ which features King Paluta.
