A security analyst has called on the police administration to moderate the behaviour and conduct of the two main political parties – New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr Ishmael Norman stated in an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday that is because the country does to belong to either of the two parties but to the people.

He noted that the two parties cannot be allowed to “become irresponsible and push this country to the brink of self-intuition.”

“This is where Ghana Police come in to moderate the behaviour and conduct of these two dominant political parties,” he said.

His comment comes against the backdrop of the Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong saying the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not hand over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, the party will use whatever means necessary to remain in power in the 2024 general election.

He added that if the NDC dares to use threats, and brute force in the 2024 election, the NPP will show them that they have the men.

Meanwhile, the NPP has supported the Food and Agric Minister’s statement.

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye in an interview on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show on Monday described the statements as positive.

“Yes, we [ NPP] stand by it….He was fully positive and we [NPP] endorse it,” he said.

In response, Mr Norman said, any of the parties that cross the line of free speech and arouse the public to violence should be arrested in order for the service not to be seen as a regime agency.

“Somebody pulls a gun in public, the person is arrested the next day, somebody threatens a minister or the President, the person is invited for questioning the next day so why hasn’t Bryan Acheampong been called for questioning?” he asked

He noted that these types of speeches not only energise the base but also prepare them “step by step until the centre cannot hold and violence erupts.”

He further stated that such comments have the tendency to cause violence, adding that, such cases have been witnessed in Kenya and even within the country.

He, therefore, urged stakeholders such as the Christian Council, Muslim Council, Peace Council, and others to put pressure on these parties to act like adults competing for voters’ attention.
