Derek Carr, the former quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, has reportedly signed a four-year contract worth $150 million with the New Orleans Saints. According to NFL Media reporters Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Carr was granted permission to talk to the Saints after the Raiders released him on February 14. The Saints apparently moved quickly to secure his services, and the deal was done by Monday morning.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, who are set to face the Saints in the regular season this year, might be interested in this signing. Carr had also met with the New York Jets earlier this month, but they reportedly did not reach a deal as they are pursuing a trade for Aaron Rodgers. Other teams, including the Carolina Panthers and the Tennessee Titans, had also shown interest in Carr.
A second-round pick in the 2014 draft, Carr set several team records during his nine-year tenure with the Raiders, including the most passing yards and touchdowns in franchise history. However, he has only made the playoffs once in his career and leads the league in lost fumbles since 2014.
Overall, this signing represents a significant move for the Saints, who are looking to improve upon their 9-8 record from last season.
