Three schoolchildren have been burnt to death in the Amansie Central district of the Ashanti Region.
School pupils of the Beginners Educational Complex, they died trapped in a commercial bus which caught fire in Huu in the said district.
It is reported they had resorted to the commercial bus after their school bus became faulty while on the Edwenase-Huu road.
The unfortunate incident happened yesterday, Tuesday, June 13, 2023, where another child suffered severe burns. Currently, the child is receiving treatment at a local health establishment.
According to an eyewitness report, the bus suddently burst into flames while on the road. While it trapped some, others escaped without injury.
“They were six in number,” the eyewitness mentioned. “Their school bus had developed a fault and so their driver had to transfer them to this commercial vehicle which was heading to the same destination. The bus caught fire shortly after it sped off.”
“There were fuel products and gas cylinders,” onboard the bus, according to the eyewitness, and so: “At a point, the rescue mission was impeded due to the intensity of the blaze. There was an explosion at some point. We were helpless.”
Also, three motorbikes and a mobile money kiosk got burnt. In addition, a power line also, almost resulting in a universal blackout in the entire area.
The charred remains of the victims have been deposited at the morgue.
Residents and family members are in shock, while the police have started investigations into the fatal accident.
