The debate over who is the Greatest footballer of all time continues to occur despite many considering Lionel Messi ahead of the rest after leading the Argentinian National team to world cup glory in 2022.
Over the years now, the debate has been between the seven times Ballon d’Or winner, Messi, and Fives times Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldo. But the former winning the world cup trophy, according to many, has settled the debate.
Speaking on TV3 New Day, the former Udinese and Sutherland striker Asmoah Gyan explains why he would choose Weah, who is the current president of Liberia and previously played for Ac Milan over Ronaldo.
Asamoah Gyan said Goerge Oppong Weah is his greatest footballer of all time compared to Roanldo after failing to mention Ronaldo in the squad that impressed him at the 2022 world cup in Qatar.
Asamoah Gyan explained that during the days of Weah, there were competitive and good defenders in the game as compared to recent days, with no disrespect.
“He is the only African who has won the Balon d’Or. And then, in his time, there were a lot of durable defenders. No disrespect to this generation but those times,[had better defenders].” he said on TV3 New Day.
George Oppong Weah previously won the Balon d’Or while playing for Ac Milan.
He remains the only African to have won the ultimate individual prize in football.
Currently, Asamoah Gyan is clubless after completing his course and obtaining a license to be a coach.
