Agogo, Ashanti Region – Salt 95.9 FM, a prominent local radio station in the Asante Akyem North constituency in the Ashanti region of Ghana, has resumed operations after a period of forced closure. The announcement was made by the station’s CEO, Mr. Ohene Kwame Frimpong, on his Facebook page on June 13th.
The closure of Salt FM on February 6th was orchestrated by a team from the National Communications Authority (NCA), who shut down the station due to the non-renewal of its authorization license. This action led to unrest among the residents of Agogo, who staged a demonstration in protest.

In his announcement, Mr. Frimpong expressed deep gratitude to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of Asanteman, for his pivotal role in resolving the issue. He also extended his thanks to the Agogomanhene HM Nana Akuoko Sarpong and the entire community of Asante Akyem North for their unwavering support during the station’s challenging period.
“Salt 95.9 FM is back on air to continue serving our cherished listeners. We are immensely grateful to HRM Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Agogohene, and the people of Asante Akyem North for their support and solidarity,” his spokesman Dr Kelly Mensah confirmed.

Mr. Ohene Kwame Frimpong, who is also an independent candidate aspirant for the 2024 parliamentary elections in the Asante Akyem North constituency, added that the experience has only strengthened his resolve to serve his community better.
The return of Salt FM has been met with joy and relief by the residents, who rely on the station for news, entertainment, and community updates. The station’s reopening marks a significant milestone in restoring normalcy and upholding the community’s voice in the region.
