Budding actress, Beatrice Adi Darko is challenging Ghanaian movie producers to better their script and storytelling skills to attract a global audience for Ghanaian films.
According to her, Ghana has lots of potential and abilities to make a significant impact on the global film stage but has fallen short of the standard because its stories donāt match up to the growing global standards.
She mentioned that such factors have negatively affected the fortunes of the Ghanaian film industry and placed it at a disadvantage position in comparison to other film industries.
Beatrice Adi Darko further stressed that local stories promoting Africa and telling original African stories were equally faring well. However, Ghana hasnāt taken advantage of the new wind to tell local, which is original to the global market.
āAs an industry, we are always singing the chorus that āGhana music industry is deadā but we are refusing to identify the root cause of our challenges.
āThe world is now a global village and the face of Africaās creative industry making bold statements globally, Ghana needs to represent very well and we can only do that when our films have huge global appeal.
āI hate to compare Ghana and Nigeria but we are witnesses to how Nigerian films have flooded Netflix and other global movie streaming platforms. And they are where they are today because they are telling the original African stories and that is the same with East Africa as well.
āWe need to do our homework well, get back to the drawing board, and see the way forward for the progress of the industry,ā she stated.
