President Akufo-Addo emphasised his authority in the distribution of development across the country, particularly in the roads sector.

He stated that no road could be constructed in Ghana without his tacit approval, highlighting his pivotal role in road construction decisions.

Addressing the construction of roads in response to Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, the Independent Candidate in the upcoming Ejisu by-election, President Akufo-Addo addressed New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in Ejisu on April 28.

He assured them of his final say in road construction matters anywhere in the country.

The President’s remarks came during the final rally for the NPP candidate ahead of the by-election, following the demise of the Ejisu Member of Parliament, John Kumah.

President Akufo-Addo concluded by emphasizing that independent candidates lack the authority to initiate road construction projects in the country.

“Since he was removed, which road has he constructed?” he said addressing a former MP, Kwabena Aduomi, who has decided to contest as an independent candidate.

“I don’t say this to boast but there is no road that can be constructed in Ghana without my permission. From today till the 7th of January, the government in power is an NPP government led by Akufo-Addo.

“If you need someone to catch the attention of an NPP president, we need an NPP MP,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo also stressed the importance of maintaining the NPP’s slight majority in Parliament to facilitate the government’s agenda in the remaining months.

He highlighted the significance of ensuring a smoother process for government business by retaining the NPP’s majority.

The Ejisu by-election is scheduled for April 30, 2024, following the vacancy left by the passing of Dr. John Kumah.

Dr. Kumah, the late deputy finance minister, passed away on March 7, 2024, reportedly after battling a terminal illness.

He was being transported from Kumasi to Accra for further travel to Germany but succumbed to his illness in Suhum.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has chosen not to participate in the by-election, citing their focus on the upcoming national election.
