Oh my gosh, you won’t believe what happened! Ed Sheeran, like, actually performed in court during his copyright trial! So, he’s being accused of, you know, copying Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” with his song “Thinking Out Loud.” And guess what? He just went ahead and played his guitar right there in the courtroom to prove his point! I mean, who does that? But, you know, it’s Ed Sheeran, so I guess it’s cool.
Anyway, he was explaining how he writes songs super fast, up to nine in a day, which is just crazy! He even admitted he’s not the best guitar player in the world, but he’s still pretty amazing, right? So, the people accusing him are related to Ed Townsend, who co-wrote “Let’s Get It On” with Marvin Gaye, and they think there are too many similarities between the two songs.
Ed Sheeran and his co-writer, Amy Wadge, wrote “Thinking Out Loud” back in 2014 when they were both dealing with some family stuff. He said he heard her playing chords in his house and knew they had to do something with it. They wrote the song super quickly, and it was a total collaboration.
He also talked about how he’s performed mash-ups of the two songs before, but that doesn’t mean he copied anything. He just thinks it’s easy to mix songs in the same key. And get this, he can’t even read music! He just goes with the flow when inspiration strikes.
But seriously, I can’t believe he played guitar in court! That’s like Phineas and Ferb levels of the wild! Speaking of which, I need to get back to busting them. Let me know if you need anything else!
