In a new song, Sarkodie has accused Yvonne Nelson of trying to set him up “again” recently.
The Hiphop song produced by MOG Beatz sounds militant and it is the rapper’s first and public response to damning allegations levelled against him by Yvonne Nelson.
In her memoir I Am Not Yvonne Nelson, the actress and film producer accused Sarkodie of rejecting a pregnancy he caused. She said he drove her to a place in Mamprobi, Accra, to have their baby aborted, drove off and, what is worse, according to Yvonne, did not even get in touch after the procedure to check on her.
In the song, Try Me, Sarkodie, however categorically denies suggesting an abortion to Ms Nelson. Rather, he told her “to keep it” even though “I wasn’t ready”. It was, according to him, Ms Nelson’s idea to abort the baby because of her education.
Furthermore, the song says a “few weeks ago you tried to set me up again. You intentionally wrote to me on WhatsApp saying you still go through the pain.”
Sarkodie raps on saying that knowing Yvonne well enough, he recognised she was “really up to something” sinister. Due to this, he suggested they “meet” so she explains.
According to Michael Owusu Addo, better known as Sarkodie, he thus arranged a meeting at Sky Bar; a restaurant that is publicly known as one of his favourite places to visit in Accra.
Yvonne declined, according to Sarkodie, saying that: “There are too many people there.” Rather she suggested they meet at her house.
Sarkodie in the song says he did not take what he saw as a bait because “the one who’s suffered a snake bite fears the worm”.
Offering his general assessment of the I Am Not Yvonne Nelson book and ensuing brouhaha, the rapper and businessman said Yvonne Nelson is simply “chasing the bag” which is a colloquial way of saying she is just looking to make money.
He also wondered: “After all this, does it bring the happiness back?” and admonished the actress to “take the blame cos nobody is the cause for your bad choice in life. Stop the personal attacks.”
