Mahama Declares Intention To Run For Presidency In 2024. John Dramani Mahama, the former president of the republic of Ghana, has declared his intention to run for president in the forthcoming general elections in 2024, according to a report from Myjoyonline.
According to the report, Mahama made his intention known during his meeting with the Minority MPs in parliament after they paid a courtesy call to him on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
The purpose of the visit from the minority caucus was to inform the former president of their willingness to endorse him should he declare his intention to run for the presidency in 2024 in the name of the National Democratic Congress.
During the meeting between Mhama and the minority caucus in parliament, former president Dramani Mahama made a pronouncement and gave them his words he is willing to run for president and would make his intention known to the public soon.
A report from Joynews said, the member of parliament for the Wa Central Constituency, Rachid Pelpuo, confirmed Mahama’s intentions to run for the presidency in the 2024 presidential election.
John Mahama who was the Vice president under Evans Attah Mills won the General election in 2012. He ruled Ghana for a four-year tenure before losing the 2016 election to President Akufo Addo.
Since then, Mahama has lost another election to President Akufo Addo in 2020.
Mahama and the NDC have been ardent critics of the Akufo Addo Bwumia government. With many disappointed in the ruling government, perhaps, Mahama stands the chance of becoming the next president of the republic.
Nevertheless, Mahama is likely to face stiff opposition in the 2024 election from the ruling New Patriotic Party whose flagbearers are yet to be announced following the elections.
Alan Kyeremanteng, the former Trade minister has declared his intention to context after resigning from his position and has been working tirelessly towards that.
It is said the current Vice President Bawumia is also likely to lead the NPP, perhaps against John Dramani Mahama.
